Exceptional falconry requires raptors be in the best condition.  A wise falconer realizes that the right equipment is a fundamental aspect of keeping raptors in excellent condition. The "right" equipment does not have to be the best looking, but it does have to be of sound design, excellent materials and good fit. 

Find the satisfaction of making your own equipment whenever you can - particularly when you are new to the sport.  Afterwards, when you do purchase equipment, you will appreciate the quality of the hoods, blocks, leashes, traps, etc you purchase.  Even the cost will seem more reasonable after you've done it yourself.
