Dogs, Falcons and the Falconer - A team that has existed for Centuries.
Hunting with a falcon or hawk is thrilling in itself. Adding a dog to the team can really augment the entire experience. Watching a new pup get excited about pointing birds. Being involved as the pup learns and develops. The enthusiasm, energy and optimism of a pup is an experience not to be missed. Training the pup requires time, patience and skill (most of us work on all of this) but when you have your team - the falcon, dog and falconer - refined, then the experience you have in the field is remarkable. Just having the dog along looking for quarry is exciting in and of itself. Adding the thrill of the stooping falcon or intense chase of the predatory goshawk, is icing on the whole experience.
Treat your dogs as well as your falcons and you'll have many years of memorable experiences.
The picture above is of this webmasters facility for his two Elhew pointers. Heated water buckets provide accessible water in the winter. Individual insulated compartments in the shed with swinging metal doors provide the ability for the dogs to heat the compartments to 35-40 degrees with outside temperatures around 10 degrees. Long runs provide space to move and a tarp keeps the precipitation off the food.
